About the Speakers

Karen Fox is a cancer survivor, with thirty years of experience assisting patients and their families.
Simon Fox is a former physicist, with twenty years in designing volunteer and adult education programs. Together, this husband-and-wife team from Santa Barbara, California has spent seventeen years developing new forms of patient care programs that deliver psychosocial support those who are sick and lonely. Awarded a Point of Light by President Bush, they are best known for the Raggedy Ann & Andy Visiting Programs, which lift the spirit of patients in thirty-five hospitals and nursing homes, every week, all year round. The Foxes’ method of communicating with patients and families, is now being used by over 3,000 organizations nationwide, to teach health care staff, students, and volunteers, the art of communicating with compassion.
