Train-the-Trainer
Cultivating Compassion in Your Staff gives the tools necessary for supervisors, managers, and others in leadership roles to implement a seven-step process that reliably builds competencies in compassion.
Compassion cannot be taught simply by lecture, because it is much more than
information. Nor can it be taught the way in-service training is usually done,
because it is more than a task. Addressing these challenges are the goals
of a Cultivating Compassion session.
They include participants being able to:
- Introduce the topic of compassion to their audience in a way that is practical, inspiring, and non-threatening.
- Lead a definite, reproducible seven-step process for cultivating compassion that produces lasting behavioral change.
- Facilitate group dialogue, that draws out the audience’s compassion and utilizes the wisdom in the room.
- Lead skill-building exercises that produce insight and proficiency in compassion.
- Coach individuals – deliver feedback in ways that build confidence and encourage a stretch beyond the comfort zone to widen their circle of compassion.
Participants benefit by acquiring new leadership skills that can be applied in a wide variety of professional and personal settings. These skills usually result in more satisfying working relationships and appreciation from co-workers.
Some of the benefits for organizations include:
- Patients experiencing compassion, so their satisfaction scores rise.
- Communication between staff and patients is clearer, reducing the number of misunderstandings and mistakes, so patient safety improves.
- Staff job satisfaction improves, increasing retention, especially of the best employees.
- High standards of communication are set for new employees, consistently and explicitly.
Train-the-Trainer participants learn directly from the originators of the Cultivating Compassion in Your Staff. All attendees receive a Cultivating Compassion Instructor’s Manual with class formats, dialogue topics, role-play exercises, self-evaluation process, continuing education ideas, and audience handouts. CEUs and CMEs are available.
Support is available for educators by phone or e-mail for one year, to support superior delivery of the program. Find out how to schedule or reserve a spot in an Adventures in Caring Train-the-Trainer seminar.
